It’s where resources are valued, used efficiently and only discarded only when the material has no further use – in contrast with the current linear economic model, ‘take, make and throw’ extractive approach.
Kensington Circular Economy Precinct
Following a feasibility study and stakeholder engagement, the Kensington precinct has been identified as City of Melbourne’s first Circular Economy Precinct.
The Kensington Circular Economy Precinct program provides retail, hospitality and grocery store owners support needed to implement circular solutions in a selection of grocery stores and hospitality businesses. The success of the program will see Kensington become Australia’s first Circular Economy Precinct.”
Businesses wishing to take part in the program will see the costs of implementing certain circular economy solutions covered by the City of Melbourne.

How to be part of Kensington’s Circular Economy Precinct
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from local retail, hospitality and grocery stores businesses to participate in the program.

The Kensington Circular Economy Precinct is in alignment with various key Council plans and strategies, including the Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 and the Climate Change Mitigation Strategy 2050.
This Kensington Circular Economy Precinct is supported by the Circular Economy Councils Fund. The Fund is delivered by Sustainability Victoria under new Victoria Government’s circular economy policy, Recycling Victoria: a new economy.
